International human rights affirmed by UCC General Synod 28

Sexual orientation and gender identity are a frame for targeted violence against people worldwide, including in Lebanon, Jamaica, and Zambia. With Wider Church Ministries, individuals now in the U.S. but championing others in their homelands sought support from the United Church of Christ this week, and got it.

By 98% vote, the UCC General Synod approved a resolution affirming the human rights of all LGBT people. The resolution supports church advocacy toward laws which would make this kind of violence illegal, even when condoned by culture, politics or religion.
