Mission
The UCC GenderFold Action Alliance empowers and supports transgender/gender variant inclusion through education, leadership development and advocacy.
Identity
The GenderFold is led by those who identify along the transgender and gender-variant spectrum, whether by identity, experience or history. With further development it may become an organized representative group. Currently it is a catalyst for folks to come to know one another to work together on shared passions.
History
GenderFold was birthed on May 8th, 2010, at an in person gathering of 20 folks in Cleveland.
In 2003 the General Synod affirmed a resolution to include and encourage Transgender members of the United Church of Christ (UCC). Virtual community-building since then, and dialogue across the wide spectrum of transgender/gender-variant and allied communities within ecumenical networks propelled the moment. More than 60 stake-holders in the UCC agreed when they launched the GenderFold that it was time for a more active gender network for people in our faith family.
In 2010 a survey was circulated among TGV people, providing a picture of where developments are at since the 2003 resolution. In 2011, folks attended Creating Change, and for the second year in a row are attending the National Gathering of the UCC Coalition for LGBT Concerns. Numerous individuals continue to educate their churches and seminaries, attend or organize events, and offer care and mentoring to one another.
Get Involved in an Action Group!
Please let us know your interests and passions as we build our community to bless God’s work among us. Send an email to uccgenderfold@gmail.com, to share how you want to become involved!
And, whether this year you can give $5, $35, $100, your online gift is important. Thank you! If the right giving level for you this year is $0, that too is honored. We believe fund-raising within our own community is important, but we acknowledge the tremendous oppression facing us with unemployment and under-employment.
We look forward to hearing from you – whether you are genderqueer, gender-variant, MtF, FtM, cross-dressing, transgender-historied, transgender-identified, transsexual, or some other version of God’s creative work.
